Michael J Keane B. Comm., FCA, M.Sc. (Mgmt.) is the Vice-President of Administration & Finance at the College.
As the Chief Financial Officer, he oversees the areas of Finance, Procurement, Human Resources, Estates & Sustainability, Health & Safety, Library and capital development projects that support the advancement of the College’s academic mission.
He is a member of the College Governing Authority (An tÚdaras Rialaithe) and sits on the Finance & Resource Committee, the Audit & Risk Committee and the Equality Committee. He leads as Chair of the Capital Projects Control Group and the Library Project Steering Committee, overseeing the College’s ambitious Masterplan (2022-2042). This includes the €40 million state-of-the-art library project on the Limerick campus.
Michael Keane is a member of the Board of Directors for The Lime Tree Theatre Limerick CLG and is the company secretary and a member of the Audit & Risk Committee for this company – a related party to the College. He is also a member of the College’s ICT Services Committee, Research Committee, Environment & Sustainability Committee and he deals with related entities to the College.
He joined MIC in 2013 as Director of Finance, and was appointed to his current role in 2016. A Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland, he holds a B. Comm. from UCD and an M.Sc. (Mgmt.) from Trinity College Dublin. He has also completed the prestigious Advance HE Top Management Programme for senior leaders in Higher Education.
Earlier in his career, Michael worked as an auditor with PWC Accountants, where he qualified as a chartered accountant, before dedicating some time to providing financial expertise to the aid agency GOAL overseas in East Africa and the Balkans region. On returning to Limerick he became Business Owner and Managing Director of Shannonside Oil Ltd.
