The President of the GAA has praised the enduring work of educators in the promotion and development of Gaelic games, as he launched a new GAA Centre of Excellence at Mary Immaculate College (MIC) in Limerick. The MIC Munster GAA Centre of Excellence in Child Coaching and Gaelic Games Promotion was officially launched by Uachtarán CLG, Larry McCarthy, on Wednesday 18 January. The Centre of Excellence is the result of a new partnership between MIC and Munster GAA which ultimately aims to promote, develop and enhance Gaelic games and coach education within education from pre-school to post-primary level.
President of the GAA, Jarlath Burns reaffirmed his commitment to giving third level Gaelic Games competitions a “proper place” in the association as he launched the MIC Gaelic Games Club on Monday 22 April.

MIC is registered with the Garda National Vetting Bureau for the provision of Garda Vetting services. In January 2008, the College introduced Garda Vetting for all students over the age of 18 years who have substantial unsupervised access to children and/or vulnerable adults during the course of their studies at MIC.

The primary objectives of the Gender Equality Enhancement Fund are: to encourage innovative approaches to addressing gender inequality across HEIs; to facilitate gender equality initiatives that respond to the recommendations of the HEA Expert Group and/or Gender Equality Taskforce’s recommended actions, and to encourage cross-sectoral collaboration as a means to achieve national transformation.
The Gender Pay Gap Information Act, 2021 requires organisations with more than 250 employees to report on their hourly gender pay gap across a range of metrics. Organisations are required to select a snapshot date in the month of June. The snapshot date selected by MIC is 30 June. The annual MIC gender pay gap report is based on the staff employed by MIC on 30 June of that year, using data from the previous 12 months.
The Navigating the New Frontier: Generative AI and Academic Integrity conference was held at the Clayton Hotel, Limerick on the 14 and 15 of October 2024. This two-day event was organised by the MIC Learning Enhancement and Academic Development (LEAD) Centre, in partnership with the University of Limerick and Technological University of the Shannon, and in association with the National Academic Integrity Network (NAIN).
Generative AI and Academic Integrity Conference will take place 14-15 October 2024 at the Clayton Hotel, Limerick, where we will explore the relationship between Generative AI and Academic Integrity within the Higher Education (HE) sector. We will consider ideas and debates around Generative AI including acceptable use, equity of access, originality, designing for the classroom and assessment, and policy development and implementation. The conference will give voice to the perspectives and experiences of academics, students, policy developers and the broader HE community. Bringing together diverse voices, this conference will investigate how the Irish HE sector can navigate and make use of generative technologies while upholding the values of Academic Integrity. It will be of interest to academics, students, professional support staff and policy developers, and will include conference presentations, keynote addresses and a roundtable panel discussion.
