This doctoral programme in Applied Linguistics is a four-year, full-time programme which includes a combination of taught modules (in Year 1 of the programme) and individual research, the principal component being the doctoral thesis. In tandem with the doctoral thesis, this programme aims to enhance the professional knowledge of language teachers and language professionals by focusing on the core features of language as a system (grammar, lexis and phonology), language learning and acquisition, as well as language in its broader societal context.
The Department of Language and Literacy Education, Mary Immaculate College is pleased to announce a M Ed / SPhD in Literacy Education in response to recommendations for high quality professional development in effective literacy instructional practice in recent policy reports at national level including the National Strategy for Literacy and Numeracy 2011-2020, Cosán 2016, Action Plan for Education 2017 and DEIS 2017.

The Mary Immaculate College CAO Points Concession Sports Scheme has opened for applications from athletes who are engaging in sports at a high level and applying for a full-time Level 8 Undergraduate programme at MIC Limerick or Thurles. Successful applicants who meet all the necessary academic entry requirements and the sports assessment criteria may be eligible for a points reduction of up to 40 points below the First Round CAO points cut-off for the programme they have applied for.

Santa Claus came to town and made a special detour to Mary Immaculate College last week (7 December) to come to the MIC Student Parent Christmas Party where he had a picnic with the children, joined in storytelling and even learned how to “Jingle Bell Rock”.
