MIC Marks 10 Years of Applied Linguistics Programmes with ‘Throwback’ Webinar Series

MIC Marks 10 Years of Applied Linguistics Programmes with ‘Throwback’ Webinar Series

This year marks the 10-year anniversary of the Issues in Applied Linguistics series, which is run as part of the Grad.Dip./MA and Structured PhD in Applied Linguistics at Mary Immaculate College (MIC).

The MA in Applied Linguistics programme began in 2015 and since then, has added a Graduate Diploma and Structured PhD to the suite of available programmes, with students graduating from across the globe.

To celebrate the milestone, the Department of English Language & Literature, has invited a number of speakers that contributed to the very first Issues in AL series in 2015 to present again 10 years on. Where relevant, the speakers will focus on developments in the field during the last decade.

Discussing the milestone, Dr Joan O’Sullivan of the Department of English & Literature, said:

“We are delighted to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our ‘Issues in Applied Linguistics’ series which we run as part of the MIC postgraduate programmes in Applied Linguistics. Issues in Applied Linguistics is a series of online lectures from internationally-renowned Applied Linguists and is open to the public. Over the past decade, we have been privileged to host speakers and participants from all over the world and we are delighted to say that presenters from the very first series have accepted the invitation to speak again and are really looking forward to presenting!

The MA in Applied Linguistics programme began in 2015 as a fully-online programme. This opened up accessibility to students based in different parts of the world and has brought a multicultural dynamic to the programme. Since then, the programme has progressed with great success, and we now offer in-person and blended options as well as a part-time programme. We have also added a Graduate Diploma and Structured PhD to our suite of programmes.  We are proud to say that our programmes have graduate from all over the world, and we hope our alumni can join us for this exciting 10th Anniversary series.”
