Then on Tuesday, 11 March (6pm-6.45pm) experts from MIC’s Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Education and Research & Graduate School will host a session on the College’s wide range of taught and research-based postgraduate programmes, along with information on fees, funding supports and the application process.
In advance of the live events, there is a range of Explainer Videos which can be watched at a suitable time. These videos cover programme-specific information on the over 30 taught and research-based programmes on offer in Education and the Liberal Arts.
According to Dr Julianne Stack, Research & Graduate School Director: "A multitude of research disciplines can be the focus of postgraduate research, and at MIC, you’ll receive the support and guidance from graduate certificate to doctoral level to achieve your study goals. Academic departments and the Research & Graduate School teams work together to provide effective structures to ensure students are supported in their studies to the maximum possible extent. MIC provides a vibrant postgraduate environment with academic supervision appropriate to the candidate and access to research resources and professional development opportunities."
The College’s postgraduate offering includes programmes as diverse as a Master in Climate, Justice and Sustainability and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Management, along with a Master of Education (M Ed) with Specialisms that has recently added three new specialism options in ‘Philosophy with Children’, ‘Leading Professional Learning for Educators’, and ‘Leading Digital Education’.
The programmes modular design enables students to register for specific core M Ed modules and select others from an exciting range of 14 specialisms in areas as varied as STEM Education, Education and the Law, and Child Protection, thus flexibly accumulating credits. The programmes customised nature, which is offered as a full-time (one-year) or part-time (two-year), allows for flexible, agile and individualised learning pathways.
Resources available to MIC postgraduate students include financial support, peer-to-peer interaction, coaching, and mentoring. Students can also participate in transferrable skills training, covering research skills, research management practices, personal effectiveness, communication skills, networking and collaboration strategies, teamwork, and career planning and management.
To help meet the real-world needs and costs of postgraduate research students, MIC offers funding support of €800,000 per annum through its Departmental Assistantships Scheme and merit-based Research Masters and Doctoral Awards Scheme. Students also have access to the purpose-designed graduate research and study facility on the John Henry Newman Campus.
According to Kieran Morrissey, M Ed in Educational Leadership and Management graduate: "The Master in Educational Leadership and Management was an incredibly rewarding experience. As a part-time, two-year programme, it allowed me to balance my studies with my role as a primary teacher. I chose this programme to broaden my horizons in education, and it exceeded my expectations. The small class size was a significant advantage, providing an intimate learning environment where I could engage with and learn from experienced leaders in the field. The content was equally enriching, covering essential topics like educational leadership theories and the critical role leaders play in the education system. The knowledge and insights I gained have already started to impact my teaching and leadership approach. This programme has not only expanded my understanding of education but also equipped me with the skills to take on leadership roles with confidence. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to grow as an educational leader."
