Mary Immaculate College (MIC) is delighted to announce the appointment of Cora Gleeson as the new Director of Library & Information Services.
Cora, who is a Limerick native, brings extensive experience to the role, having held several key roles at the University of Limerick’s (UL) Glucksman Library, including Systems Manager; Library Website Designer; Electronic Resources Librarian and Collections Services Manager.
Alongside her time spent at UL, Cora has also played a significant role in shaping national library policies, serving as a founding member of the Irish Research eLibrary (IReL) Steering Group and as Deputy Chair of The Consortium of National and University Libraries (CONUL) Regulatory Affairs Group. In 2023, she led the National Book Tender, working alongside procurement and library professionals across multiple institutions to oversee a €30 million initiative. She has also authored several reports on national tenders for the Irish Universities Association (IUA) Librarians’ Group.
Expressing her enthusiasm for her new role, Cora stated: “I am honoured to take on the role of Director of Library and Information Services at Mary Immaculate College. Libraries are at the heart of academic life, and I look forward to working with students, staff, and colleagues to enhance our services, expand resources, and support learning and research in innovative ways.”
She added that she believes in the “transformative power of libraries” and is committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment where students can thrive.
A graduate of UL, University College Dublin (UCD) and the King’s Inns, Cora is eager to develop and expand the services available to students at MIC. She is particularly excited about the upcoming development of MIC’s new library, which she envisions as a dynamic hub for learning, collaboration and discovery.
Commenting on her appointment to the role, Michael Keane, Vice-President of Administration and Finance at MIC said:
“MIC is delighted to welcome Ms Cora Gleeson to the College where she takes up the role of Director of Library & Information Services. Cora’s early career commenced at MIC and she now returns to MIC having worked in significant and varied roles in UL within library services. She brings a wealth of experience to this senior role at the College which will see her dedication and innovative approach enable the library to continue to be a dynamic and essential resource for our students and staff. She will also play a key role as MIC seeks to advance a capital project to shortly commence construction of a new, 5,000 square metre library on the Limerick campus. We congratulate Cora on this well-deserved appointment and look forward to the continued growth and success of our library services under her leadership.”
It is hoped that construction of the library, which will be situated at the heart of the Limerick campus, will commence in 2026 with a provisional opening date of Autumn 2027. Further details on the library development, including its timeline and key features, will be shared in the coming months.
