AI in Education Talk Series Launched by ICAIRE and LEAD

The Irish Centre of AI Research in Education (ICAIRE) and the Learning Enhancement & Academic Development (LEAD) unit at Mary Immaculate College (MIC) are pleased to announce the launch of the AI in Education Talk Series; an exciting initiative which aims to encourage and embrace a deeper understanding of the evolving role of Artificial Intelligence in education and research.

The talk series, set to feature five expert-led sessions, will explore key themes such as academic integrity and ethics;  the use of AI in assessments; the effective use of AI in research and more. This series will also provide educators and researchers with insights into the opportunities and challenges AI presents in educational contexts.

Dr Patrick Buckland, Co-Director of ICAIRE, emphasized the significance of this series:

“The seminar series ‘Generative AI in Education’ came about as part of ICAIRE’s two-fold mission: first, to keep educators and staff in the loop about the rapidly evolving space of AI in education. Second, to engage in interdisciplinary research on the impact of AI in reshaping educational practices. We have six talks planned, which will be given by experts in their fields, covering various topics, including ethics and academic integrity considerations, AI in assessments, and how to effectively use AI in research.”

Dr Katherine Whitehurst, Director of Teaching and Learning at MIC, highlighted the importance of the initiative:

“LEAD is delighted to support this five-part seminar series by ICAIRE aimed at expanding people’s knowledge of the use of Artificial Intelligence in education and research. The interest in and attendance at our conference last October, ‘Navigating the New Frontier: Generative AI and Academic Integrity’—held in partnership with UL and TUS, in association with the National Academic Integrity Network, and funded by the National Forum—showed that there is a real appetite to learn more about AI and its possible benefits and misuses alike.”
