Clár iarchéime saincheaptha ar líne do mhúinteoirí ábhair iarbhunscoile fógraithe ag gCMgS
Tá ríméad ar Choláiste Mhuire gan Smál (CMgS) a fhógairt go gcuirfear sainchlár iarchéime nua ar fáil ar líne do mhúinteoiri ábhair iarbhunscoile. Sa chlár iarchéime seo, (An Teastas Iarchéime i dTeagasc Ábharbhunaithe san Iarbhunscoil Lán-Ghaeilge agus Ghaeltachta (TTA)), déanfar freastal ar na sainriachtanais forbartha gairmiúla mar aon leis na hinniúlachtaí teanga riachtanacha chun ábhar a mhúineadh trí mheán na Gaeilge i nGaelcholáistí, in Aonaid Lán-Ghaeilge agus in iarbunnscoileanna Gaeltachta. Cuirfear tús leis an gclár iarchéime seo, atá ag Leibhéal 9, i Mí Eanáir 2021. Tá an TTA curtha ar fáil ag Coláiste Mhuire gan Smál i gcomhpháirt le Bord Oideachais agus Oiliúna Éireann agus leis Chomhairle um Oideachas Gaeltachta agus Gaelscolaíochta (COGG).
Dúirt an tOllamh Eugene Wall, Uachtarán Choláiste Mhuire gan Smál, “Tá lúcháir orainn i gColáiste Mhuire gan Smál a bheith ar thús cadhnaíochta maidir leis an nuálaíocht san fhorbairt ghairmiúil leanúnach san earnáil seo atá ag forbairt de shíor. Táimid ag súil go mór le bheith ag comhoibriú le Bord Oideachais agus Oiliúna Éireann agus leis an gComhairle um Oideachas Gaeltachta agus Gaelscolaíochta san obair úrnua seo, agus leis na páirtithe leasmhara go léir chun clár iarchéime ar ardchaighdeán a chur ar fáil don earnáil.”
Tá an TTA curtha ar fáil mar réiteach ar an easpa tionscnamh saincheaptha forbartha gairmiúla le dul i ngleic leis na riachtanais shonracha ó thaobh teanga agus oideolaíochta de atá ag múinteoirí ábhair a dhéanann an teagasc trí Ghaeilge. Leiríonn fianaise go gcuireann easpa tionscnamh saincheaptha forbartha gairmiúla leis an bhfás atá ag teacht ar an laghdú múinteoirí ábhair ó Ghaelcholáistí, ó hAonaid Lán-Ghaeilge agus ó hiarbhunscoileanna Gaeltachta.
Chuir an Dr T.J. Ó Ceallaigh, Coláiste Mhuire gan Smál, in iúl go bhfuil sainriachtanais ar leith ag múinteoirí ábhair a dhéanann an teagasc trí mheán na Gaeilge. Dúirt sé “Ní mór do mhúinteoirí ábhair sa chomhthéacs tumoideachais an t‑ábhar a theagasc agus, ag an am céanna, aird a thabhairt ar riachtanais foghlama teanga na ndaltaí agus iad ag tabhairt faoi ábhar acadúil a fhoghlaim trí mheán teanga nua, trí mhionteanga nó trí theanga bhreise. Sa chlár iarchéime seo, an TTA, bainfear leas as straitéisí seachadta ar líne (straitéisí aisioncronacha agus sioncronacha) chun tacú le forbairt teanga agus le cleachtas oideolaíochta an mhúinteora ábhair ar bhealach atá comhtháite agus bríoch. Mar thoradh ar an struchtúr cumasaithe tacúil sin, beidh sé níos éasca ar rannpháirtithe léargais agus rudaí nua a chomhroinnt agus páirt a ghlacadh sa mhachnamh comhoibríoch agus sa phleanáil straitéiseach chun cultúr éifeachtach foghlama agus pobal cleachtais a chothú ar líne.”
Dúirt Paddy Lavelle, Ard Rúnaí, Boird Oideachais agus Oiliúna Éireann, “Tá an-áthas ar Bhoird Oideachais & Oiliúna Éireann teacht i gcomhpháirt le Coláiste Mhuire Gan Smál, Luimneach agus le COGG ar fhorbairt an chláir, Teastas Iarchéime i dTeagasc Ábharbhunaithe (TTA). Tá BOOÉ lántiomanta do thacaíocht a thabhairt do Bhoird Oideachais agus Oiliúna barr feabhais a sholáthar san oideachas trí mheán na Gaeilge ar fud na tíre. Ag eascairt as taighde fairsing, d’aithin BOOÉ an deis tacú le múinteoirí i scoileanna Gaeltachta, Gaelcholáístí agus Aonaid lán-Ghaeilge de chuid na mBord Oideachais agus Oiliúna tríd an gclár nuálaíoch agus idirghníomhach seo a fhorbairt. Cuirfidh sé ar chumas múinteoirí a gcuid scileanna agus cleachtas féin a fheabhsú a chabhródh le teagasc agus foghlaim éifeachtach i suíomh lán-Ghaeilge.”
Ag fáiltiú roimh an gclár iarchéime nua, dúirt Príomhfheidhmeannach COGG, Muireann Ní Mhóráin, go dtabharfar aghaidh go straitéiseach leis an TTA ar bhearna aitheanta i bhforbairt ghairmiúil múinteoirí ábhair iar-bhunscoile a líonadh. Dúirt sí “Deis iontach a bheidh ann do mhúinteoirí na sainchleachtais oideolaíochta do theagasc trí mheán na Gaeilge a shaibhriú sa Ghaeltacht agus ar fud na tíre, chomh maith le díriú isteach ar shainteanga na n-ábhar atá á dteagasc acu.”

MIC launches customised postgraduate programme for post-primary subject teachers
Mary Immaculate College (MIC) is delighted to announce the launch of a customised postgraduate online programme for post-primary subject teachers. The Postgraduate Certificate in Content-Based Teaching (An Teastas Iarchéime i dTeagasc Ábharbhunaithe san Iarbhunscoil Lán-Ghaeilge agus Ghaeltachta (TTA)) has been specially designed to attend to the specific professional development requirements, as well as the mandatory language proficiency, required to teach content through Irish in Gaelcholáistí, in Aonaid Lán-Ghaeilge and in Gaeltacht post-primary schools. The TTA is a Level 9 programme with initial student intake set for January 2021. The programme is being offered by MIC in conjunction with Education and Training Boards Ireland and an Chomhairle um Oideachas Gaeltachta agus Gaelscolaíochta (COGG).
The President of MIC, Professor Eugene Wall said “Mary Immaculate College is delighted to lead innovation in continuing professional development in this continuously evolving sector. We are very much looking forward to collaborating, in this work, with Education and Training Boards Ireland and an Chomhairle um Oideachas Gaeltachta agus Gaelscolaíochta and with all other stakeholders to provide an exceptional postgraduate programme for the sector.”
The TTA programme was developed in direct response to the current lack of tailored professional development initiatives which address the specific linguistic and pedagogical needs of subject teachers who teach through Irish. It is widely recognised that the lack of professional development programmes is a contributing factor to the high rates of attrition among subject teachers in Gaelcholáistí, in Aonaid Lán-Ghaeilge and in Gaeltacht post-primary schools.
Dr T.J. Ó Ceallaigh, MIC lecturer and TTA Programme Director, highlighting the unique and complex professional development needs of subject teachers who teach through Irish said “Subject teachers who work in these immersion contexts need to teach content while at the same time being attentive to the language learning needs of students as they learn academic subject matter through the medium of a minority, a new or additional language. In this postgraduate programme, the TTA, online delivery strategies (asynchronous and synchronous) will be deployed to support subject teachers’ language development and pedagogical practice in an integrated and meaningful fashion. This enabling and supportive structure will facilitate subject teachers to share insights and innovations and engage in collaborative reflection and strategic planning fostering an effective learning culture and a community of practice.”
Paddy Lavelle, General Secretary, Education & Training Boards Ireland said “Education & Training Boards Ireland is delighted to collaborate with MIC Limerick and COGG on the development of the Teastas Iarchéime i dTeagasc Ábharbhunaithe. ETBI is fully committed to supporting Education & Training Boards in providing excellence in Irish-medium Education throughout the country. Arising from extensive research, ETBI recognised the opportunity to support teachers in ETB scoileanna Gaeltachta, Gaelcholáistí and Aonaid lán-Ghaeilge through the development of this innovate and interactive programme. It will enable teachers to enhance their own skills and practice that is conducive to effective teaching and learning in an Irish-medium setting.”
Welcoming the new postgraduate programme, Chief Executive of COGG, Muireann Ní Mhóráin, stated that the TTA will strategically target the identified professional development needs of post-primary subject teachers. She said “This is a great opportunity for teachers to enrich their pedagogical practices of teaching through Irish in the Gaeltacht and all over the country, as well as attending to the discipline-specific language of their subject area.”
