Pilot Programme in Contemporary Living at MIC launched
MIC working in partnership with the Brothers of Charity Services in Clare, introduced the pilot of a new inclusive programme of education called the Inclusion Partnership Programme.
The main aim of the pilot programme was to create a pathway for adults with intellectual disabilities to access a third level experience that carries an achievable award in inclusive settings. In September 2011, fifteen students enrolled on the Programme in Contemporary Living and the following May each of the fifteen participating students received their awards from the College President, having successfully completed each of the four modules on the programme.
In 2014, the Certificate in General Learning and Personal Development (CGLPD) was introduced and subsequently received formal accreditation in 2017 as a level 4 QQI award in partnership with the LCETB. Over a decade since the first programme of its kind to be introduced in the College, the CGLPD continues to offer educational opportunities to adults with ID to pursue their educational and life goals in an inclusive third level environment.
