Official Opening of Mary Immaculate College
The official opening of Mary Immaculate College took place on 16 May 1902.
Sr Paul Quinlan provided an account of the official opening of the College in a report submitted to the manager, Bishop O'Dwyer, towards the end of the first academic session (1902).
The public and formal opening of the College took place on Friday, 16th May 1902 and was the occasion of a very notable gathering of clergy and laity alike.
Most Rev Dr. Sheehan, Bishop of Waterford at your Lordship’s request declared the College open. The audience, which, besides such distinguished visitors as their Lordships, the Bishop of Cork and Ross, the Right Worshipful, the Mayor of Limerick, Sir Vincent Nash, D. L. High Sheriff, Lord Monteagle and the Knight of Glin, was thoroughly representative of the city and county of Limerick.
