Office of the President
The President (An tÚachtarán) is the Chief Executive of the College and is ultimately responsible, within the framework of policy set down by the Governing Authority (An tÚdarás Rialaithe) for the leadership and executive management of all the operations of the College, including academic, administrative, and financial affairs. The President is a member of the Governing Authority and is Chairperson of the College’s Academic Council (An Chomhairle Acadúil).
A Welcome from the President
Mary Immaculate College is a distinctive and inclusive university‑level, Catholic College of Education and the Liberal Arts, offering undergraduate programmes as well as a range of research-based and taught postgraduate programmes at Certificate, Diploma, Master's and Doctorate levels. Qualifications in the professional development and lifelong learning categories complement the course offering so that MIC now has a range of programmes from Level 4 up to Level 10 on the National Framework of Qualifications.
The programmes of study in the College are among the most highly sought after in the country, demonstrated by the fact that MIC has grown to an enrolment of almost 5,000 students—roughly 25 times the numbers in the early 1990s. The College has also expanded in its ambition, amenities and geographical footprint, but MIC is equally proud of its reputation as a caring institution, where there is genuine concern for the well-being and dignity of the individual. The friendly and welcoming atmosphere is a hallmark of MIC that has endured since its foundation.
The Senior Management team is very proud that MIC is recognised and appreciated for its excellence in teaching, learning and research and its essential contribution to the continuum of academic provision in effective and productive collaboration with its partners in the higher education sector. Academically linked with the University of Limerick, we frequently work in collaboration with UL and Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT) to find new avenues for academic excellence, educational inclusion and innovation.
Committed to making a Positive Difference
MIC is also committed to making a positive difference in our community, both local and regional, and to that end, we open up our campuses in Limerick City and Thurles, Co. Tipperary, to a variety of academic and leisure activities - often specifically aligned with the strategic aims and ethos of the College.
Mary Immaculate College plays a pivotal role in third level education in a diverse and inclusive Ireland. Here we strive to provide a vision and an environment where our students have both the freedom and the opportunity to achieve their full capabilities.
I often turn to the inspiring words of others to encourage our newly conferred students at Graduation. A quote attributed to Abraham Lincoln reads: “The best way to predict the future is to create it.” I hope our alumni can follow this maxim as they follow their own paths in life. Likewise, as Mary Immaculate College moves towards its 121st year, it aims to fulfil its own potential with continued growth and progress in the years ahead.
